haha. if you're at edinburgh, i recommend staying at the budget backpackers hostel. its cheap, and the rooms are very very nice. :)

we went to both glasgow and edinburgh. You should definitely go to edinburgh and spend a day or two exploring the city. The city itself has this really old, medieval charm which i personally liked a lot. If you're interested in faeries and what not, people do hold these midnight tours that bring you around to the hidden nooks and crannies of edinburgh, and tell you the stories that are associated with them (e.g. the haunted tunnels under the city center)

Save one meal to at least try the Black Pudding and Haggis once. If you're feeling rich, go to the whiskey museum thing (not free admission!) that is near the Edinburgh castle. I think there's also this kilt weaving factory near the whiskey place that you could go to and look at the machinese weaving kilts (Free admission!)

Edinburgh castle is ok and as interesting as castles get, so yep.

what else? GO TO ARTHUR'S PEAK! it's at the edge of the city, and you can pack a lunch and hike to the summit and spend an afternoon contemplating the wild beauty of the scottish highlands. I think the summer time will be perfect, cos the days are long and warm (we went in winter, so it was freezing when we hiked up the peak)

Glasgow wasn't too thrilling. It was a normal city, and felt less old than edinburgh. Didn't really get to do much there. cos we took a day trip there.

Once you're done exploring the city, I think you HAVE TO move out and go hiking in the countryside around. take a bus out of the city! Go to Roslin! And see the Roslin chapel! There are quite a few really pretty hiking trails around the whole roslin area, so walk around.

personally i think scotland was best experienced in the outdoors, cos the countryside has such a wild, untamed feel to it, that its almost magical. Like you can almost believe that things like faeries and unicorns can exist out there. I wish I had gone there in the summer, because when we went there, it was too cold and the days were too short to go for proper walks and hikes.

If you're planning to spend a long time in scotland, i heard that its northern regions are really beautiful and have a lot of good trails, plus there are the lakes to go to, (loch ness etc). Haha.

haha. i'm so gonna visit scotland again one of these days. :) it actually was the highlight of our trip for me.

p.s if you're thinking of visiting stonehenge in salisbury during your trip, just to warn you: its very expensive and also very overrated.

p.s.s Stratford upon avon is a cute little village to go too, if you're a shakespeare nut.
