"Humans take only seconds to decide what kind of relationship they would like to pursue with the people they meet." Amused as she read the report, the girl felt that it was true. She too, took only seconds to decide if she should make friends with someone, steer clear of someone, or to go ahead for his number. Decisions made solely based on first impressions of that someone.
Yet, as she ponders upon this, she recalls that there was one such person that gave her a rather odd feeling, a feeling that she has never ever felt again.
It occurred on her first day of school, when she did not know a single soul in class. As the girl sussed out the folks in class with a quick sweep across the class, her eyes landed on this particular guy. He was sitting near the front door of the class, across the room from where she was sitting, near the windows. Their eyes did not meet, and it was a rather one- sided thing, as she started to stare at him, longer than she should have. However, the guy did not notice that he was being observed; he was rather captivated by the conversation with his partner. She, on her part did not speak a single word to her partner throughout the day, as she did not have a good feeling about her initially. Her partner appeared way too spunky for her to cope, and she was correct, as the time would tell. But that will be another story.
The feeling the guy gave her was a feeling of déjà vu. She felt close to him, even though this was the first time she had seen him. This odd, fuzzy feeling started to stir within her. She kept him at the back of her mind as the day went on.
A few days later, everyone in class switched places, and the guy who gave her this odd feeling was assigned to sit in her row. Initially, this guy was way out of her train of thoughts as he was sitting right behind her, and thus, technically, out of sight. However, the things that he did or did not do intentionally started to draw her attention to him again.
She was very afraid of spiders and unfortunately, the guys in class discovered her fear. That started the tricks that the guys would pull on her whenever a spider was in their vicinity. Most of the guys would just drop the offending arachnid on her table, but this guy that drew her attention was the most creative. He would use his plastic ruler as a springboard to launch the spider, hoping that it would land onto her table. Fortunately, the failure rate for this maneuver was very high. The next thing that started to draw her attention to him further was his handwriting. At that age, neither of their handwriting was neat. Though untidy, their handwriting were so similar that people in the class mistook their work for the other's. Thus, graded work is always passed to the wrong person, as most people in class recognized each other’s handwritings, except theirs.
As time went on, the girl found that the guy had many things in common with her. She liked to drink tea, especially green tea, and the guy appeared to like this drink too. Their thoughts appeared to parallel each other, as they would usually come out with ideas that are highly similar. The scariest thing was that even when they grew up and went their separate ways, there were still many similarities in their thoughts.
Once, they were at a pub for a class gathering, and the class ordered drinks. Oddly enough, while all of them tried to order different drinks so that they can try out more varieties of the poison that the pub could offer, this guy ordered the same drink as her. Even their tiny, childhood idiosyncrasies were the same. The guy once said that he disliked dishes topped onto rice, as this would make the rice mushy. The girl had the same reason for preferring dishes separated from the rice.
They were in the same class for 4 years, even though they were streamed several times. Perhaps this is what people call karma, to meet such a person that would draw ones's attention in such an odd way. Viewed from a different perspective, this may be yet another sad case of “you yuan wu fen”. Imagine, despite their similarities and the strange attraction the girl had for him, they did not become close friends. Indeed, things like yuan fen and karma seem to exist and it is the wonderful combination of yuan and fen that two human beings will come together. To all the S.A.D people out there, don’t fret, perhaps the timing is just not right, perhaps your other half has not taken note of you yet, or perhaps your other half has not appeared yet…
Whatever the case, the author thinks one should never compromise and just go for the second best person, for this is just too unfair for that person. Can you imagine meeting your yuan fen later on? Sigh.. that would mean having to dump that poor chap, and that is just too cruel a thing to do. Perhaps that is why there are some mid-lifers out there who have “never been kissed’’. Haha.. and from the looks of it, the author may well be on track to joining the ‘never been kissed’ club, despite the best efforts of SDU.
NB: People reading this may feel that the author is just another snoobish girl out there for the best catch, ever though they come in limited editions But to the author, its better to love her other half whole-heartedly for the rest of her life than to go for the next available guy and give him only some of her attention, as her attention would definitely be in looking for her yuan fen. This is just too cruel a thing to do to the next available guy.

haha, in the end, the girls also support my point what... looking for THAT right guy
take ur time ppl, one should not get good things easily in life, i believe in exclusivity :)
no what.. ur point is that u want the
"highest quality" female... the author's point (which does not necessary = "the girls'" point) is that it's better to wait for the right person than choose anyone who likes you. The right person may not necessary have to be very high quality... could be someone who just clik very well with you!
hey chin, say, if you have a girl who is really
"high quality" in terms of virtues and beauty but u find it hard to talk to her, she kinda not on the same frequency as you and there's a girl whom u can clik very well with, you feel that she can understand u... who would you choose?
